Ty Beard is an attorney in Bellagio, Las Vegas. In case you haven’t heard of him yet, he is a legal advisor who appears on TV during legal commercials. He usually makes it a point to say something along the lines of, “The more I practice, the better my clients feel about me.” That’s a pretty good slogan. Now, Ty’s clients must be feeling as good as he is after his very successful stint as a lawyer on television.
Now, there are some who would like to have their own reality TV show where they portray themselves as a lawyer and tell their tales of wacky adventures. Such a thing has already been done by many a lawyer on television. But if the lawyer that Ty is representing can be found on television, then one can be sure that Ty’s client feels that he or she is so good that Ty will get every last client in the law firm booked. Is that realistic?
The only thing realistic about this type of representation is that Ty’s client would have a high opinion of himself and that he would be happy to talk about his successes and failures on camera. But does such a lifestyle fit for everyone? Not every lawyer is comfortable on camera. Many find it awkward and uncomfortable.
Legal representation is not an easy job. There is no free lunch out there. No matter how good a lawyer is, he or she still needs to earn a living. Does that mean that a legal videographer cannot make a living doing it? Well, I think not.
Today’s cameras just aren’t built for a full interview. Most of them let you cut the footage after it’s recorded. So, if you’re going to hire a lawyer, make sure that you’re aware of his or her charges beforehand.
The world is changing rapidly and quickly. While TV shows are still primarily for entertainment, many lawyers have discovered that they can actually use these platforms to give their clients a better idea of what they’re getting into before they agree to hire them. This is why hiring a legal advisor is so important. Make sure that you choose the right one.
The video clips can be used in a number of ways. For instance, a prospective client might be able to review the video at home or in the office. Additionally, they could view it on their laptops or even in their cars (provided they have internet access).
Some lawyers are even using this new technology in depositions. Instead of having the lawyer-to-be take the witness stand, they record a video with facial movements of the defendant.
